Syngonium Batik

The Syngonium 'Batik' (also known as the Arrowhead Vine) is a popular tropical houseplant celebrated for its unique foliage that resembles the intricate patterns of Indonesian batik fabric.

Key Features

• Foliage: The leaves are dark green with striking, prominent white or cream-colored veining that creates a "web-like" or "network" effect.

• Growth Habit: It starts as a mounded, bushy plant but will naturally begin to trail or climb as it matures.

• Leaf Shape: Young leaves are distinctly arrowhead-shaped, but they can become more lobed (divided into multiple sections) as the plant ages or is allowed to climb a support.

Care Guide

• Light: Thrives in bright, indirect light. While it can tolerate lower light, the white variegation will be most vibrant in brighter spots. Avoid direct afternoon sun, which can scorch the leaves.

• Water: Water when the top inch of soil feels dry. Syngoniums prefer to stay slightly moist but are sensitive to overwatering; ensuring the pot has good drainage is essential to prevent root rot.

• Humidity: Prefers medium to high humidity (40%–60%+). If your home is dry, consider misting the plant, using a pebble tray, or placing it near a humidifier.

• Temperature: Keeps best between 60°F and 80°F (15°C–27°C). Protect it from cold drafts and sudden temperature drops.

• Soil: Use a well-draining, airy potting mix. A blend of standard potting soil with perlite or orchid bark works well.

• Fertilizer: Apply a balanced liquid houseplant fertilizer (diluted to half strength) once a month during the spring and summer growing seasons.

Propagation & Maintenance

• Propagation: Very easy to propagate via stem cuttings. Simply cut a stem below a node (where the leaf meets the stem) and place it in water or moist soil until roots develop.

• Pruning: Regularly pinch back or prune long vines to encourage a bushier, fuller appearance.

• Toxicity: Like most aroids, it contains calcium oxalate crystals and is toxic to pets and humans if ingested.
